Our quintessential craftsman beach bungalow is ideally located close enough to downtown State Street in Santa Barbara to take in all it has to offer, but far enough removed to enjoy the local flavor of the "American Riviera" without all the tourist trappings that tend to go along with it.
Originally built in 1930, the property maintains its old world charm with its white picket fence and quaint, single story appearance, but was updated in 2013 with a modern kitchen, refinished oak hardwood floors and beautiful double pane windows throughout. The home has been decorated to complement the look and feel of the home and area. The neutral shades work well with our natural and vintage beach decor. Each piece was carefully selected to make this home cozy and comfortable so guests could enjoy their vacation in a tranquil setting.
The family room is open and comfortable with a sofa sleeper and 46" HD flat screen TV with a Roku streaming device serving up hundreds of movies and TV shows. The kitchen is completely remodeled and updated with all new stainless steel appliances and is fully stocked with everything you need to prepare your meals. Great natural lighting and counter with bar stools allow family and friends to gather where the action is. Spacious dining room with service for six is just off the kitchen. The two bathrooms were completely remodeled in 2013 with all new, modern fixtures. The master has plenty of closet space with a Cal King cushion topped Serta mattress and the other 2 bedrooms have the same bed in a queen size. Those 2 rooms also have access to back porch/yard from the bedroom through french doors. All bedrooms are flat panel TV equipped with their own Roku streaming device.
The backyard was landscaped in June 2013 with a 400 square foot flagstone patio, lush palms and Santa Barbara native foliage. An 8'x10' pergola provides ample shade for our patio table that comfortably seats six. A second patio table with market umbrella seats another four guests in our front yard with a similar flagstone pad setup. Challenge one another to a friendly game of ping pong on our outdoor, aluminum Kettler table with provided paddles and balls. A new grilling 'station', complete with overhead market umbrella and four burner gas grill with side burner lets you BBQ in style. The setting is completed with a propane space heater (for those cool Santa Barbara evenings), a couple of comfortable lounge chairs and bistro table.
The detached garage has been converted into a game room straight from your youth (if you're a child of the '80's, that is) with a half dozen original, full size classic arcade games including Pac-Man and Donkey Kong (no quarters necessary!) A brand new (as of 2019) Samsung front loading washer/dryer is also available to clean up after your jaunts to the beach. If you'd like to use our Electra cruisers to get around town they are available for rent. The front porch is a great place to hang out and if you prefer more privacy, the back yard is very private and peaceful.
Downtown Santa Barbara is an easy 4-5 blocks away. State Street is know for it's shopping and dining so you have everything you need. The Daily Grind is just around the corner so you don't have to go far for your morning coffee. During the day, drive 5 minutes up to the historic Mission, or 5 minutes down to the beach. Or even better, just bike straight down 2 miles to the ocean. The Santa Barbara Bowl, within walking distance, is a beautiful place to enjoy concerts under the stars. Parks for the kids and all the best Santa Barbara has to offer is within easy reach of the property. For an excursion, enjoy a 30 minute drive to the Santa Ynez wine country or venture further to the lovely towns of Solvang, Pismo Beach or San Luis Obisbo.

It’s a really cute older house. The cleanliness was not what we were expecting. Bathroom shower was clogged. Utensils, glasses and pans dirty. Dish towels were stained like someone washed their car with them. The decor looked like it was all purchased at garage sales. If I was paying $200 a night it would pass but we were paying $550 a night!!!!! Sooo not worth it!!!
Here is the review I left for Barbara. It should explain everything: Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Barbara as a guest and hosts would be well advised to use caution when renting to her. Initial communication seemed pleasant enough, even though she seemed a little frazzled traveling with her 'cranky' mother (her words, not mine). Anyways, a few hours after she arrived I received a phone call letting me know that some wine glasses were dirty and there was some staining on our slip covered chair. I apologized for that as it was unusual based on our history with our cleaner, but the real reason for the phone call became apparent when the conversation quickly turned to a discussion of our rates and why she was paying more for her stay than what she currently saw on our Airbnb ad. I explained that the rates she was looking at were for last minute, weeknights and that she had booked a holiday weekend months in advance and that the rate she had paid was our regular rate and the one that most of our guests pay. In the future if she wanted to visit during the week and was willing to take a chance on some rare last minute availability, she could potentially take advantage of such a discount. Apparently, this did not sit well with her. The next morning I received a 'courtesy' call from Airbnb explaining that our guest, Barbara, was unhappy with the cleanliness of the place and requesting to cancel the reservation for a refund and that Airbnb was awaiting documentation of the issues. I detailed my previous nights conversation about her unhappiness with the rates. I also had confirmed with my cleaning company that the house was prepared as it always is. This has garnered us 77 five star reviews for cleanliness and value over the past 3 years and not a single complaint to Airbnb. Subsequently, I was able to debunk all of the photos supplied, including a staged photo of a backup of our bathtub -- an hour after she left, my cleaner shot a video of the drain working perfectly fine, which I supplied to Airbnb. In regards to our decor, Barbara should have been well aware of the style of our furnishings as they are exactly as pictured in our photos and our reviews will attest to it. Barbara is simply an 'opportunist'. It would seem that she was lucky enough to find another place with last minute availability (and probably reduced pricing) and was able to weasel her way out of her existing reservation with trumped up and staged photos. The hopeful silver lining here is that she most likely won't ever be able to do that again on Airbnb as she has been exposed for what she really is.
